RH + ARCH was commissioned by a small congregation to design a contemporary chapel that serves as a place of worship, spiritual reflection, and community gathering. The project is situated at the base of Mammoth Lakes, providing a scenic backdrop for the architectural venture.

The design of the chapel is rooted in minimalist principles, aiming to create a simple and elegant structure that seamlessly integrates with the natural surroundings. The architectural team prioritized harmony with nature, creating a space that fosters a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors.

The chapel embraces contemporary architectural elements, employing clean lines and modern aesthetics to create a visually striking yet understated structure.

With a total area of 9,000 square feet, the chapel is designed to be modest in size, focusing on an intimate and personal experience for worshipers. The architecture prioritizes a connection with the surrounding environment. Large windows and thoughtful placement of spaces allow natural light to fill the interior, offering views of the picturesque Mammoth Lakes.

Various areas within the chapel are dedicated to spiritual reflection, providing a tranquil environment for individuals seeking solace and connection with their faith. In addition to the worship areas, the chapel includes communal spaces that encourage congregation members to come together, fostering a sense of community and shared experience.

The choice of materials reflects the minimalist design approach. Natural and sustainable materials are employed, creating a timeless and enduring structure that complements its natural surroundings. The project incorporates sustainable design practices, including energy-efficient systems and environmentally friendly materials, aligning with RH + ARCH commitment to responsible architecture.

RH + ARCH design for the contemporary chapel aims to provide the congregation with a serene and contemplative space for worship, reflection, and community engagement. The resulting structure harmoniously coexists with the breathtaking landscape of Mammoth Lakes, creating a landmark that resonates with both the spiritual and natural elements of its surroundings.
